It had been my husband's idea to move to Tanzania in 2005. He wanted to accept a job as Director of CDC's AIDS project in Dar es Salaam while I was intrigued by the prospect of living in a country with landscapes like Mount Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti.
Footnotes from Abidjan
I moved to Abidjan with my husband in the early 1990s at the height of the AIDS epidemic when treatment wasn’t available in African countries. He was excited at the prospect of work at an AIDS project run by the CDC while I had huge reservations about taking two small children to Cote d’Ivoire.
